Canadian Pacific Overnight Railroad Maintenance Notice

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) will begin overnight railroad maintenance along the rail corridor parallel to Highway 16 starting Monday, April 20.

Work will take place in communities from Pewaukee through Watertown, including Ixonia, and is expected to continue for 6–8 weeks, likely wrapping up in mid‑June. Crews will be replacing rail ties between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m., Monday through Thursday, which may result in increased nighttime noise and lighting.

The project is necessary to support safe train operations on this busy Twin Cities–Chicago corridor and to avoid delays to Amtrak services and freight operations. As work progresses westward, rail crossings will be temporarily removed and reinstalled in coordination with local authorities, improving road surface conditions once complete.
