Building Permits

A Building Permit is Required For:

  • New Homes
  • Additions to existing home
    • Bathroom, Kitchen, Basement Remodels
  • Attached/Detached Structures
    • Garages/Shed/Pole Barn/Accessory Building
    • Decks
  • Solar Panels
  • Plumbing work
  • Electrical work
  • New furnace, air conditioning, water softener, iron filter
  • Swimming Pools

Obtaining a Building Permit

A building Permit can be obtained, after approval of application materials from the Building Inspector located at the Town Hall at W1195 Marietta Ave.

Paying for a Building Permit

Payment can be made online with a credit card. Please return to the "Payment Hub" on our Town of Ixonia's Homepage. A direct link is here: GovPayNet - Town of Ixonia Bulding Permits – Where the form requests permit #, please include the address and details related to the project(s). In addtion, please include your payment confirmation with permit applications.

What do I Need for a Building Permit?

GENERAL

  • Applicant Name
  • Name and address of laborer
  • Project Plan
  • Type
  • Estimated cost of material/labor.
  • Project Square Footage - if applicable.
  • Pricing: $8 per 1,000 M of Valuation ($100 minimum)
    Example: $10,000 value is an $80 permit

GARAGE, SHED, ADDITION, DECK, POOL:

  • Jefferson County Zoning permit
  • Construction Drawings

FENCE:
No higher than 6 feet, no closer than 1 foot to Lot line.
Not allowed in front yards.

  • Survey, sketch of lot indicating location on lot

NEW HOUSE:

  • If your building site has sewer and/or water: an impact fee must be paid at the Town Hall. The receipt is to be provided to Jefferson County Department of Zoning to apply for a zoning permit.
  • Sanitary permit - if building in an area that requires a septic system.
  • Architectural Approval (if building in a subdivision)
  • Plat of Survey: 3 originals from a registered land surveyor.
  • Plans: 3 sets.
  • UDC Application

COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL:

    • Zoning permit
    • State approved plans if over 5000 square feet.
    • Town Board approval
